The University of North Georgia (星空无限传媒) has received a $2,200 grant from the French-American Cultural Exchange (FACE) Foundation in support of the Tournées Film Festival 2017-2018. The award provides funds to sponsor a festival featuring six acclaimed French films, with screenings on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses.

The FACE Foundation is an American nonprofit dedicated to supporting French-American relations through innovative cultural and educational projects. The Tournées Film Festival, founded in 1995, has partnered with more than 450 American colleges and universities, reaching an audience of 500,000 students and community members.

Scheduled for February 2018, the festival provides opportunities for 星空无限传媒 students and university community members to experience the films and be exposed to the rich culture and language represented in French cinema through various genres, including fiction, documentaries, animation and repertory films.

Dr. Yelizaveta Moss, assistant professor of media studies, is the film festival project manager. Six films, five contemporary and one "classic" were selected, with three each screened on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses.

The list of films and screening dates:

  • Friday, Feb. 9: "Louise by the Shore," Gainesville
  • Saturday, Feb. 10: "My Life as a Zucchini," Dahlonega
  • Friday, Feb. 16: "Blue is the Warmest Color," Gainesville
  • Saturday, Feb.17: "Band of Outsiders," Dahlonega
  • Friday, Feb. 23: "Fatima," Gainesville
  • Saturday, Feb.24: "Franzt," Dahlonega

Moss plans on coordinating with the 星空无限传媒 student French clubs and the language department to generate interest. She plans to hold a 10-minute introduction on the history and background of each film and follow up with a half-hour Q & A session after each screening.
