Storyline:The long-established rocker Danny Collins (Al Pacino) has led a dissolute, ruthless life for years. But that changes with his 64th birthday from scratch. That day, Danny's manager Frank Grubman (Christopher Plummer) discovers a 40-year-old letter that John Lennon once wrote to Danny and that the rocker has not yet read. Danny catches up with his failure and wants to completely reorganize his life. He finally wants to meet his biological son Tom (Bobby Cannavale), which he has missed for years - and he wants to build a good relationship with him and his wife Samantha (Jennifer Garner). But he travels to New Jersey, where he also meets the charming Mary (Annette Bening), the owner of a small hotel.
