Storyline:A half-dehydrated man (Harry Dean Stanton) wanders disoriented through the Texan desert. He seems to have lost his tongue and is poorly and reluctantly looked after by a provincial Doc (Bernhard Wicki) in Devil's Graveyard. The doctor alerts Travis', that's the name of the stranger, Brother Walt (Dean Stockwell), who arrives from far-off Los Angeles to fetch his dead relatives. On the way back Travis finds his language again. Walt and his wife Anne (Autore Clément) have taken on Travis' now-seven-year-old son Hunter (Hunter Carson) and stepped in as replacement parents. Arriving in Los Angeles, Travis wants to emotionally approach his son. And he actually succeeds in making a connection. Both go in search of Jane (Nastassja Kinski), Travis' ex-wife and Hunter's mother ...

Storyline:A Kaff in the desert, somewhere in the southwest of the United States: Old Lucky (Harry Dean Stanton) lives alone in a small house and goes to a certain routine every day.
