Storyline:Hollywood 1927: George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a celebrated silent film star. But the introduction of sound film hovers as Damocles sword over his career. At a premiere party, George falls in love with the charismatic young extras Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), who with her winning smile even has the stuff to the big screen favorite. While the triumphal march of the sound film for Peppy means the beginning of her ascent, George, who sees himself as a star of the old record, misses the line and falls deeper and deeper on the corporate ladder. George lacks a sense for the modernization of the cinema and the new demands of the audience. He overcomes himself with his producer (John Goodmann) and his self-produced silent film becomes a flop. This not only endangers the relationship with his wife, but also almost causes him financial ruin. The black-and-white silent film by Michel Hazanavicius tells the story of the rise of a young actress in Hollywood in 1927, when the transition from mute to sound film began.
