Storyline:Jack La Motta (Robert de Niro) is one of the most famous boxers in the 1940s and 1950s along with Sugar Ray Robinson (Johnny Barnes). Especially the duels of the two fighters are legendary. The film is set between 1941 and 1964 and is based on the 1970 La Motta autobiography. Growing up on the Lower East Side in New York, he started boxing as an adolescent. The action begins just before La Motta meets his longtime wife Vickie (Cathy Moriarty), just 15 years old. Besides Vickie, there is only one person who has a meaning for La Motta: his brother and manager Joey (Joe Pesci). La Motta (like Scorsese) grows up in Little Italy, and the film portrays the social milieu alongside boxing, in which La Motta is portrayed from the beginning as a man whose life almost exclusively revolves around himself.
