Storyline:The young Irish Eilis (Saoirse Ronan) leaves home and family behind in the early 1950s to take on the chance of a better life in New York. In Brooklyn, she finds a job in a fashion store and learns at an Irish dance festival, the Italian-American Tony (Emory Cohen) know who helps her to settle in the big city. Despite the reservations of Tony's family, an intense love affair develops between the two, but it is increasingly overshadowed by Eilis' strong homesickness and yearning for her family. A family tragedy eventually forces the young woman to return to Ireland, but not before Tony and her make a knot. In Ireland, her old companions are offended by the new Eilis, but she soon finds solace among old and new friends - especially with the charming Jim (Domhnall Gleeson). So Eilis sees itself not only faced with the choice between two men, but also between two countries.
