Storyline:New York in the 1960s: Walter Stackhouse (Patrick Wilson) is a successful architect and hobby crime writer who, however, is unhappily married to estate agent Clara (Jessica Biel). While his marriage is nearing its end due to an affair with jazz singer Ellie (Haley Bennett), Walter is increasingly fascinated by the story of a bookseller who allegedly killed his wife. Walter imagines what it would be like if he killed his own wife - of course that's just a hypothetical frustration game. But then Clara is actually found dead and suddenly Walter is the main suspect. And although he assures his innocence, it's getting harder and harder for him to prove it. Slowly, Walter gets entangled in increasingly dubious statements and thoughts. Could he have anything to do with Clara's death? Based on the novel "Der Stümper" (original title: "The Blunderer") by Patricia Highsmith.
