Storyline:1946: post-war period in Hamburg. The city is completely destroyed and the Allies are working on denazification. The British Colonel Lewis Morgan (Jason Clarke) is to move to the Hanseatic city to help with the reconstruction. Together with his wife Rachael (Keira Knightley) and his little son, he moves into a house where, out of pity, he lets the previous tenant Stefan Lubert (Alexander Skarsgård) live with his traumatized daughter. From now on, the two families in claustrophobic surroundings must deal with their pain and the grief they have experienced. Of course not without the initial hostility towards the other.
