Storyline:19-year-old Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) is a gifted drummer. In one of the most prestigious music schools in the country, he is taken under the wing of the conductor Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons). The well-known band leader promotes the young drummer, but he challenges him even more: With rabid teaching methods that increasingly degenerate into excesses of violence, he wants to drive Andrew to peak performance and leads him to his physical and emotional limits. The young musician faces the ordeal, because it is his longing desire to become one of the greatest drummers in the world. While his worried father Jim (Paul Reiser) increasingly doubts the teacher's methods and intentions, Andrew perseveres. But how much more can the teenager still bear?
