Academic Engagement

The Center for Academic Engagement (AE) coordinates and facilitates comprehensive educational programming, supports academic engagement and success opportunities such as high-impact practices (HIPs) and invests in discovery through engagement scholarship. At the University of North Georgia, we believe that academic engagement and student success should be an integral part of our DNA as an institution, not only determining the fabric of who we are, but also who we are going to be in the future.

AE is committed to enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes and promoting widespread student access and participation in high-impact practices. HIPs are designed to promote active learning, collaboration, and sustained interaction with faculty and student peers. These practices are associated with improved academic performance, higher levels of engagement, and increased persistence toward graduation.

What is Academic Engagement?

Academic Engagement facilitates educators with creating more engaging and enriching learning environments that foster deeper learning experiences and better prepare students for their future careers. This is done through enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes, promoting widespread student access and engagement, improving retention and graduation rates, while addressing institutional barriers.

Why is Academic Engagement Important?

Academic engagement and practices such as HIPs are positively associated with improved academic performance, increased persistence toward graduation, higher levels of engagement, and building better relationships between students, faculty, and the community. Academic engagement increases opportunities for students to engage with the greater community as part of their educational plan. Students and faculty can connect with the community and utilize the skills taught within the University.

What does the Center for Academic Engagement actually do?

The Center of Academic Engagement holds the leading role to direct academic engagement programs across all five of �ǿ��޴�ý’s campuses, nationally recognized by American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) and the University System of Georgia (USG). The Center for Academic Engagement aims to improve overall engagement and assist in coordination efforts for academic purposes.

The Educational Talent Search Summer Exploratory program returned this June, providing middle and high school students a chance to prepare for graduation and enrollment into higher education institutions.

The �ǿ��޴�ý poultry team placed eighth at a national poultry contest in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in November.

Dragon boat team wins gold on Lanier

�ǿ��޴�ý's dragon boat team finished first in the collegiate division of the 200-meter race at the annual Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Lake Lanier Olympic Park.
